1. How tall is the box style deer stand?
The plans call for 12' 4
x 4 treated posts for the tower. This makes the floor of the stand approximately 12'. However, the stand
can be built to any height you choose simply by buying different lengths of 4 x 4 posts. Whatever height you
choose you will also change 2 of the 2 x 4 x 14' to a length that is 2' longer than the 4 x 4's. These 2 2 x 4's are
for the ladder.
These plans have been used for deer stands where the enclosure was simply placed on
concrete blocks as a ground deer blind to tower stands that were 16' at the floor.
2. Is there a material list?
Yes! There is a material list for single occupant as
well as the double occupant stand. There is another list for the additional materials if you wish to add the bow slot option.
3. How long do the stands hold up?
Nearly all of the materials are treated lumber. Currently we have stands that are 14 years old and
still in very good shape.
4. How do you erect the tower?
This is spelled out in detail in the deer stand plans booklet. Again the book is very thorough and
written so that anyone can build this stand. I have stood the stands up by myself using a tractor but a couple of your buddies
could be used instead.
5. Can I make modifications to the plans?
Yes! The format of the book is designed to be easy on the eyes and leaves space for you to add your
own personal changes. However, if you follow the deer stand plans exactly as written, you will have a deer stand that is very
suitable for years of enjoyable hunting.
6. I've never built anything. Do you think I could build this stand?
If you are able to read and
use a tape measure, you can build this stand. We suggest you read the entire book first. Then check off each step as you progress with
the building.
The book was written with you in mind. It has material list, recommended tool list, step
by step instructions, detailed and well labeled plans (scaled drawings). The book is layed out in sections detailing the construction
of each component with complete information on erecting the tower. (Note: It doesn't tell you when to take breaks or how to
pick out your hunting hotspot for the stand.)
7. How long does it take to build?
With all the materials
and tools on hand and a familiarity of the deer stand plan book you should be able to build the enclosure in 6 to 10
hours. Once you are at location to erect the stand, you should be able to finish your box stand in 2 to 3 hours.
I do know of someone who built the single occupant stand in 4 hours including the tower but this
will not be the case for most people.
8. What if I run into a snag!
The plans are very thorough so read them again. You probably missed something. Also the deer stand
plans have numerous helpful hints and notations throughout the booklet. We're also glad to assist you when all else fails.
Give us a call at 1-800-748-9442. But be prepared, you may have to hear a deer story!
9. What is the door size?
More than ounce we've
had new questions start popping up out of the blue only to find out a new competitor has made it a selling point for their
product. (It's says something for our plans that we're the one to compete with. Thanks!)
Anyway, the plans call for a 2' x 4' door. Due to the fact that you approach the doorway climbing the comfortably angled
ladder, the doorway does not have to be larger.
I'm 53 years old and can walk up the ladder right into the stand without any problem and have never bumped my head. Also,
I have a nephew that is 6' 5" and 300 lbs. and it wasn't a problem for him either.
Another point of a door this size is that once you're in the stand less wall space is occupied by a door making the stand
safer. However, if you just want a larger door, the plans can easily be modifed due to the format of the booklet.
10. Is there a window in the back of the deer stand?
Here again we've started hearing this one and it turns out to be a competitors selling point. The
deer stand plans do not show a window in the back but you can easily make this modification in the plans if you want one.
Our thinking is that we have never met a deer hunter with a head that rotates 360 degrees. Also, we keep the back closed and
the side windows start a small distance from the back so that your head is not silhouetted. Even though you're in a box a
deer can still see you. If you're spinning around checking windows probably you're just going to see a white tail anyway.
Also, no back window will have less scent dispersal due to drafting ( sort of a venturi effect where air passing the stand
tends to suck out air from inside along with your scent).
These plans also have the windows designed so that there is very little blind spots in the front corners
unlike some other designs. This enables you to see and make a shot without excessive moving.
11. Can I download the deer stand plans?
Sorry we do not offer this for several reasons.
When we first started offering the deer stand plans for sale, we were printing them ourselves. Our plans are 30.3 MB
and consumed a large amount of ink. This plus increasing sales that we couldn't keep up with doing our own printing, caused
us to have them professionally printed which actually cost less per piece enabling us to keep our price down.
Keep in mind that unless you have a computer at your building site, you will have to print downloaded plans and that
does increase your actual cost of the plans.
Also, unless you have DSL or another form of high speed internet, you will wait a while to download a file of this size.
We can put the deer stand plans in your hands in 2-5 days for most locations or for 2.00 extra you can have
them in 2-3 days.
