LR50 Clock Battery - SR850 Clock Battery - MR8504
|
Due to the high volume of customer calls for the
LR50 clock battery or camera battery, we have dedicated this page strictly for information concerning the LR50 clock battery,
the SR850 clock battery, and the discontinued MR8504 mercury clock battery. Other equivalent clock battery numbers are PC1A,
MR8504, SR8504, A1PX, EPX1, 1A, 1100A, V1PX.
In most clock battery applications the LR50 works fine. Our
customers have purchased and successfully used the LR50 in Movado clocks, Tiffiney clocks, European clocks, carriage clocks,
swiss mantel clocks, and many Cartier clocks. However, we have noted from feedback of our customers that in some cases the
LR50 clock battery would not work and the SR850 clock battery was the only alternative to the discontinued MR8504 mercury
clock battery.
The following is more information and photos that we hope will
be helpful to our customers to determine the clock battery best suited for a particular clock.
Comparison of the LR50 clock battery and the
SR850 clock battery
Dimensions
LR50 clock battery
15.80 mm length
15.76 mm diamenter
SR850 clock battery
16.78 mm length
15.68 mm diameter
Note that the LR50 is .98 mm shorter and .08 mm larger in diameter. These differences are very slight and
in most cases do not have any affect on whether either battery will work for you. More of a factor is the design
of the cell well and contact configuration of your clock. See the photo and info to the left.
The voltage of both batteries is 1.5 V
The LR50 is an alkaline clock battery.
The SR850 is a silver oxide clock battery.
The capacity of the LR50 is 1/4 to 1/2 that of the SR850.

In the photo below you can see the very slight difference in the length of the two clock batteries.
The SR850 is the battery on the left and has its insulator located in the middle of the battery. The positive contact
area of this battery is the bottom and bottom half of the sides. The negative contact area is the top and top half of the
sides.

In the photo above you can see that the LR50 (clock battery on the right) has its insulator around the edge of the top.
The very top of the battery is the negative contact area and the bottom and complete sides of the battery are the postive
contact area. It is important to study the contacts inside the clock battery well to determine if they will make contact
in the correct areas of the battery.
